Esomeprazole
Indications/Uses
PUD & NSAID-associated ulceration, GERD & Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
PUD Triple therapy regimen w/ amoxicillin & clarithromycin: 20 mg bid for 7 days or 40 mg once daily for 10 days. NSAID-associated ulceration 20 mg daily for 4-8 wk. Prophylaxis for NSAID-associated ulceration 20 mg daily. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 40 mg bid, may be adjusted as needed. Max: 240 mg. Doses >80 mg daily should be given in 2 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 1 hr before meals. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Special Precautions
Exclude possibility of malignancy before giving other PPIs. Hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, diarrhea & skin rashes. Pruritus, dizziness, fatigue, constipation, nausea & vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain, arthralgia & myalgia, urticaria & dry mouth.
